My Perfect Planet (Book)

After we wrote our my planet stories we turned them into books with the help of Mrs. Peg Ginoux. Mrs. Ginoux has a website here’s a link. https://gignouxart.com/ . First we used Akua Ink and leafs to print and use later. How we print is a gelli plate  and roller. The look like this

That photo is from https://kimherringe.com.au/printmaking/gelatin-plate-printmaking-recipe/

After we made the prints we folded and cut a sturdy piece of paper. Then we decorate the the paper in certain places starting with the spot that would be the inside of a little in-cove. After we decorated that we glued down a part and cut a hole so u could see what we had just decorated. Next we decorated the rest of the parts that were meant to be decorated. Then we glued it to a spine of the book so that it looked like a book. After the glue dried we decorated the outside of the book. Once we finished we took photos of it to show here on our blogs. Here are my photos

Finger Print Project

Since we are reading a mystery book in L.A. we did a project on finger prints. We took our finger prints then figured out what type they are. There are many types. There is the  arch, whorl, plain loop, tented arch, central pocket, exceptional arch, twinned loop, radial loop, lateral pocket, ulnar loop, and accidental. There are more that’s just a few.

How we took our finger prints is that first we colored really hard on a piece of paper with pencil. 2nd you take one of your finger and rub it in the pencil took pick up the graphite. 3rd you get a piece of tape and stick it on the finger that has the pencil on it. 4th you stick the tape with your finger print on a new piece of paper to see what it looks like. 5th the we determined what type of finger print we have.

Here are eight cool facts I learned

  1. The rarest finger print is a arch
  2. In 90 years of fingerprinting, there hasn’t been any identical sets
  3. Fingerprints aren’t hereditary
  4. Not all the fingers on your hands are the same print
  5. Koalas have fingerprints
  6. Even identical twins fingerprints are different
  7. People can have unique prints on there  tongue and feet
  8. Finger prints are used to help solve crime

Facts are from

  1. https://childidprogram.com/facts-about-fingerprints/#:~:text=Fingerprinting%20is%20one%20of%20the,formed%20seven%20months%20after%20conception.

  3. https://byjus.com/question-answer/do-siblings-have-same-fingerprints/#
  4. https://littlemedicalschool.com/ottawa/blog/why-do-we-have-fingerprints/

Did you know that fingerprints are hereditary? No one in the world has the same fingerprints as some else. But the shapes of your fingers can be.

I would add a picture of my fingerprints but im not so sure about that, and there might be some creeps.

Colonel Virts

A couple weeks ago  Colonel Virts Visited Durham Academy. He  worked as a U.S  Air Force test  fighter pilot, then went on to work for nasa as a the international Space station commander and space shuttle pilot. He retired in August of 2016.  After he wrote a book called An Insider’s Guide to Leaving Planet Earth and The Astronaut’s Guide to Leaving the Planet.

Book 1
Book 2

I learned some very cool things when he visited. Like how it feels when you land or take off, but my favorite thing is that he got to see the northern lights from space. They are very pretty in real life but in space the are so much cooler . I also got to get a baseball signed by him.

Here are some photos from him actually visiting.

Play Review

A couple of weeks of go Chamber Theater Productions came to our school. They did multiple short plays but my grade only saw 2,  Monkeys Paws and The Necklace.  My favorite was the monkeys paw so that’s what I will be talking about. Monkeys paw was written by the English author W.W. Jacob. It is an horror story, kinda like if you got a evil Jeanie. The Monkeys Paw is about a paw that can grant you three wishes (like a Jeanie). One day a woman came back from being in Egypt alone after her husband died, she decides to go see her friend. When the woman got to her friend house she talks to her friend, her friend’s husband, and their son (he’s a adult) about her experience with the paw. They don’t believe her so they take the monkeys a paw from the woman. The woman warns them about how bad thing can happen if they take the paw and that they should just burn it. They don’t don’t take her advice and keep the paw, the woman leaves them. The man and the son wish for a certain amount of money, it doesn’t happened right away so the son goes to work and the parents go to bed. Later they get a know on the door, the man explains that the son had been shredded in the machine he was working with. They man gave them the money the amount of money the had wished for and left. The mom used the second wish and wished for her son to come back to life. After a long while the son came back but as a shredded up zombie. They used the last wish to get rid of him. The moral of the story is probably be grateful of what you have.

I think that the actors and actresses did really good. The had preformed for the last time together when we saw.

Stock Market

We are doing a stock market game in LA. Each person got a total of 20,000 fake dollars (unless you did a group, the group got $20,000 not $40,000 or $60,000).  We are doing this because in the book we are reading one of the character Turtle Wexler is obsessed with the stock. How we bought and keep track of our stocks is on a google spreadsheet. The spreadsheet has different formulas on it so it that it makes calculating a lot easier.

Google spreadsheet

Each group/person made a logo. My group also made an ad.

My group’s logo

My group invested in Walmart, Microsoft, Starbucks, Lululemon, Disney, and Nike. At first instead of Disney we were going invest in Nintendo because of the Mario movie, but we thought that Disney was going to do better and after like a month no one would care about the movie. We chose Microsoft, Walmart, and Starbucks because they are usually doing pretty well. We chose Lululemon and Nike because a lot of people buy from them and when we started Lululemon had just come out with new shorts. We are predicting that Nike and Disney are probably going to do the worst because that’s how it has been so far, but that the other are going to do a lot better. So far Starbucks, Lululemon, and Microsoft have been doing the best.

Moonset Towers

Photo by: One of the Tech people

In my after school activity we decided last minute to put on a play. It’s called Moonset Towers.  It’s about  about 2 family’s going to a resort, one family is super snobby and rich. The other family is Phone obsessed (besides there Nanny).  One night one of the characters Bobby went for a walk, he Found staff member #4 DEAD! All of  sudden the Mom from the rich family Jenna came from  out no where and accused Bobby for murder. When the other staff members came they just told everyone to leave. Later 3 staff members come, the talk about how they know that they know were in a play and have no free will. They figure out that the murder is….  They then tell every what the have figured out and how the can stop it. The End.

NC Museum of Natural Science

In January my class went to the Raleigh Museum of Natural Science. It was a really fun trip, especially on the bus. People were sing songs from when we went to camp Hanes and other songs. Although there was a few conflicts people were really good. We also had the best bus driver, he was super kind, also he was dealing with us sing, the conflicts and he was  also helping the other bust driver too. Amazing Right? We looked around the museum in groups of 2 advisories. At the museum there are  multiple floors , it contains animals, weather, space, bugs, dinosaurs and the race exhibit. After 3 floors we went to lunch, after we finished the floors we hadn’t gone on yet. We also went to the capital building, around it there was a lot of statues ( of old white men). Most of the statues were of confederate soldiers (because NC was a confederate state). My group was doing collective boo’s at the statues. We all want to know why they still have the statues knowing that they already had to take one down because of protesters ( people power). After we visited we got back on the bus at went back to school.

Persian Empire

In history we did a project about the Persian Empire. It is a recipe and here’s mine.

The Persian Empire Cupcakes

This recipe makes 12 cupcakes, these are very different cupcakes because they use different ingredients than normal ones. For example the recipe doesn’t call for eggs or milk, calls for things that make a strong empire. This recipe takes around 1 hour, depending if you make the frosting or not. You can either buy frosting or make some with the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • The ingredients you need are
  • 1 ¼ cups of religion
  • 1 ½ cups of non legalism
  • 1 cup of mercy
  • ¾ cups of army
  • ½ cup of agriculture
  • ¼ cup of  wine
  • Social class

Procedure:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°

Step 2:  Grab these materials a 2 bowls, spoon, measuring cup, cupcake tin,  whisk, cupcake liners, and/or cooking spray

Step 3:  Slice your social class into 6 uneven pieces making sure that the first pieces are bigger than the others. Put into the bowl

Step 4: add the 1 cup of mercy into the bowl

Step 5:  Microwave the mix for 5 minutes

Step 6: in a separate bowl mix 1 ¼ cups of religion and 1 ½ cups of non legalism together Step 7:  now it’s time to add the liquid, add a ½ cup of agriculture to the first bowl

Step 8:  Mix the contents in the first and second bowls together in one of the two bowls

Step 9:  Whisk the batter for 2 minutes

Step 10: add either cupcake liners or cooking spray into the cupcake tin

Step 11: pour the batter into the tin

Step 12: Bake the cupcakes for 25-30 minutes

Step 13: Take the cupcakes out of the oven

Step 14: Let the cupcakes cool then decorate or just eat them

Frosting:

Step 1:  boil the  ¼ cup of wine for 10 minutes

Step 2:  In a bowl pour in the ¾ cup of army

Step 3: mix the wine for 1 minute

Step 4: pour the wine into the bowl of army

Step 5: Whisk until the consistency of frosting

Step 6: Color it whatever color you want

Step 7: Finish decorating the cupcakes

Step 8: Enjoy!!!

Tips:

Always add dry ingredients first.Don’t add to much of anything, because it will make the cupcakes taste really bad. If anything goes wrong the empire will go into decline and fall or get conquered by someone else, be very careful.

The Birmingham Children’s March

Last year I did a project about a Iconic photo so I thought I would share it.

The Birmingham children’s march…(dun dun DUNNN!!!)

Why did I choose this photo? Well I chose it because during black history month me, my mom, and some of her friends started watching the best documentary called eyes on the prize. My photo is on the Birmingham children’s march or crusade. The photo was taken by Charles Moore.Charles Moore was born on March 9, 1931 and died March 11, 2010 2 days after his birthday he was 79 years old when he died.In the photo are three kids. The girls name is Carolyn Maull, the boys names are unknown. This photo was taken on May 3, 1963 the same day as the Birmingham kids crusade or march. This happened in Birmingham, Alabama, one of the places that segregation was really bad. The Birmingham kids crusade was in Kelly park.

What is happening in the photo is three high school students like I said before the girl’s name is Carolyn Maull. The three students were being sprayed with water from fire hoses which are really high powered. This occurred on May 3,1963. Fire fighters came to stop the kids from protesting against segregation. The fire fighters weren’t even supposed to use their equipment to stop the kids. While the other firefighters were spraying the kids one firefighter told Charles Moore “We’re supposed to fight fires, not people”.

In the newspaper there were pictures of the Birmingham march including my iconic photo in it. Americans  were upset and disturbed to see children hurt ( even non African Americans ) by firefighters. Since they should protect them not hurt them. On may 3, 1963, 600 of the children were peacefully put into a makeshift jail.Charles Moore also took a photo of a girl getting knocked down by the water from the hose.A few months later  The Ku Klux Klan detonated a bomb in the Gaston Motel, and one of the buildings that was headquarters for the  Birmingham campaign which ended up destroying parts of the buildings. Another bomb killed four girls Denise McNair, Carole Robertson,Addie Mae Collins , and Cynthia Wesley when they were at church in September of that same year.I wonder if the Birmingham crusade had not happened if these girls would still have died and if Ku Klux Klan planned to kill them.

In conclusion all these photos go together because all of these people (besides Charles Moore ) were innocent. They  either died or got hurt .

I got most of the photos of Wikimedia and the eyes on the price is from Hulu.
